Blending philosophy, poetry, and figure, Mobina Nouri’s Cosmic Dance invites viewers into a deeply introspective realm. The new exhibition by the Iranian artist—recipient of the Juror’s Choice and MOZAIK Future Art Award— is currently on view at Advocartsy in West Hollywood, running through December 14, 2024.

Anchored in the rich tradition of Iranian storytelling, Cosmic Dance stages the world’s complexities and movement in contemporary art through the lens of Persian literature, mysticism, and philosophical inquiry. Nouri employs postmodernist ideas, focusing on the concept of multiple centers, using hand-drawn acrylic and oil on canvas to depict feminine forms and dynamist concepts radiating from each art piece.

“Each thread is a conduit of energy that resonates across this unified network, where every thought, emotion, and action contributes to the larger choreography of existence. Nouri explains. “The cosmic dance becomes a metaphor for our shared immersion in this interconnected web, underscoring the intrinsic unity that connects us all within the vast expanse of the universe,” she shares with art currently.

Nouri’s journey as an immigrant—from the UK to the US—shapes her worldly outlook. Unbound by specific locations, she views the Earth as home. “In this global perspective, distinctions like race and religion fade, leaving only the shared essence of existence,” she reflects. “Yet, I remain deeply proud of my Iranian heritage, which connects me to a rich culture, poetry, and mysticism tradition.”

The interconnected nature of Cosmic Dance mirrors life itself. Each painting builds upon the last, symbolizing the continuous interplay of existence. Ghost cyclical cohesion reflects a harmonious flow, where no piece stands entirely alone but contributes to the broader narrative.

“In Rumi’s vision, dance is a powerful metaphor for the soul’s connection to the divine—a surrender to the rhythm of the universe and a journey toward unity,” Nouri explains. Drawing inspiration from the poet’s work, her pieces evoke three distinct types of movement: The Dance of Enlightenment, The Dance of Euphoria, and The Dance of Fertility, each embodying a unique spiritual concept.

Nouri’s output stirs a spectrum of emotions, urging viewers to engage with the spiritual and physical dimensions of existence. Cosmic Dance transcends its visual form; its intricate lines and shapes serve as a meditative reflection of human connectivity and individuality. Like the soul’s energy, each mark resounds with a sense of unity, guiding the viewer on a reflective and emotional journey.
