ArtPrize award winner Anila Quayyum Agha proudly presents her newest exhibition, Anila Quayyum Agha: Interwoven. Organized by Jeremiah William McCarthy, Chief Curator at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Interwoven will feature pieces from the past two decades of Agha’s work, spotlighting immersive cross-disciplinary installations - paper, paintings, and large-scale wall sculptures.

The Pakistani-American visual artist is known for her exploration of social roles, gender roles, global politics, and cultural multiplicity. To Agha, Interwoven signifies the unification of multiple stories decorated in color and variance, each story digging below the surface for beauty and light. All while feeling a sense of interposition, Agha’s rooted history in Pakistan and the United States has led to the dual representation of women’s place in society, the exhibition highlighting the importance of mutual solidarity along with the global devastation of climate change.

“Anila’s work asks us to reconsider the boundaries of culture, religion, and gender that oftentimes divide us and celebrate the shared humanity that transcends division,” says Chief Curator McCarthy.

Exhibition visitors can expect to see her most anticipated and renowned pieces such as the room-size sculpture, A Flood of Tears (2010/2023), and lightbox pieces, such as All the Flowers are for Me - Red (2016), and The Greys in Between (2018). While dabbling in different mediums, Agha’s versatility hits the nail on the head every time as each unique piece in Interwoven unravels the viewer into pondering the intricacies of human identity.

Anila Quayyum Agha: Interwoven will be featured from October 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025, at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, Pennsylvania
