Jaume Plensa: Silent Diary (New York)

At Galerie LeLong & Co., artist Jaume Plensa showcases Silent Diary a solo exhibition featuring a series of drawings that touches upon themes of sleeplessness and paranoia. Inspired by Plensa’s fascination with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, this collection incorporates both dark and mysterious works of art that may evoke a similar emotion as the play itself does. In Silent Diary, Plensa also introduces a new sculptural form in his practice UTOPIA (2024), a large-scale Cor-Ten steel sculpture. With each letter formed from a mix of characters from different alphabets, the sculpture celebrates the diversity of humanity and envisions a more beautiful world. May 9-June 29, 2024


Where I’m From: Observations of Cultures in Los Angeles (Los Angeles)

Diving into the essence of Southern California, the photography exposition Where I'm From explores the landscapes, cultures and authenticity of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods through the unique perspectives of 12 photographers. The IDOLWILD exhibition offers a glimpse into the raw and unfiltered documentary style, showcasing the city’s west to east side districts. Featuring works by Los Angeles photographers such as Calvin Leonard, and Paulo Freire Lopez, Where I’m From captures a personal exclusivity of communities and its residents. June 8-July 7, 2024

Incorporating paintings, paper cuts, glasswork, found photography, and quilts; each artist uses their unique style and addresses themes like identity, race, gender, culture, politics and more. For over two years, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum has planned and organized Eye Witness an exhibition that traces the dynamic and innovative career of artist Samia Halaby, a distinguished alumna of Michigan State University. From miniature to monumental, 2D to 3D, and monochrome to multicolor, Halaby’s paintings explore her roots, convey her experiences, and propose new ways of seeing the world. With more than 60 works in this exhibition, Eye Witness showcases Halaby's artistic styles such as Islamic geometric abstraction and Western abstract painting. June 29-December 15, 2024
